OGI Thesis Publication Flowchart for Students

This flowchart follows the steps used by most departments within OGI. Your department may have other requirements. Be sure to consult your advisor regarding this process.

Student writes initial draft of thesis.

Advisor works with student regarding content and format.
|
Student edits.
|
Advisor reviews.
|
Defense is scheduled.
|
Draft manuscript to thesis committee.
|
Committee reviews draft and makes comments.
|
Student defends. (Thesis is still in draft format.)
|
Student revises draft based on thesis committee recommendations.
|
Student gathers committee signatures for the archival paper copy.
|
Student obtains Recommendation for Granting Degree form online or from Department of Graduate Education.
A copy of 1) Title page, 2) Signed signature page, and 3) Abstract should be included with this form.
|
Turns in "Recommendation for Granting Degree" form with attached pages to the department granting the degree.
|
Gets exit form online or from Department of Graduate Education and completes the web based Learning Outcomes Assessment.

Completes final draft and submits to the Library for review at least two weeks before the end of the quarter in which the student's degree will be awarded. Degrees are awarded quarterly in March, June, September, and December.

Librarian reviews format/style either of a paper copy or an electronic copy and informs student of any needed changes.
|
Student makes the changes and resubmits to the Librarian for a final review.
|
The final paper copy is submitted to the Library with the Thesis Submission form and the Copyright Permission Form.
The electronic PDF copy is submitted either as an email attachment or turned in on a cd-rom with the paper copy. The student may submit other paper copies for personal use. The Library will coordinate the binding of these copies and the student will pay for the binding.

If the student wishes to submit the thesis to UMI for publication, then the agreement form must be completed and an extra copy of the dissertation must be given to the library. The fee for this submission will be borne by the student.
|
Library notifies Director of Graduate Education that the student's dissertation has been accepted and provides the Director with a copy of the title page, signature page, and abstract.
