Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Databases Guide

Patrons accessing subscription based resources remotely (that is, from a computer not on the OHSU networks) will be prompted for their last name and library barcode for authentication.

ACM Digital Library

  • Along with the ACM Guide to Computing Literature, comprises the ACM Portal website.
  • Full-text repository of all papers from publications that have been published, co-published, or co-marketed by ACM .
  • Covers all aspects of computing.
  • Library arranged into various publication types; use the basic search box at the top or the advanced search to search across a range of titles. Basic search is a keyword search only. Advanced search supports Boolean searching of multiple terms across specified fields.
  • Includes access to Computing Reviews.
  • Over fifty years of archives.

ACM Guide to Computing Literature

  • Along with the ACM Digital Library, part of the ACM Portal website.
  • Covers all aspects of computing.
  • Indexes US and international journal articles, conference materials, books, theses, and technical reports.
  • Bibliographic listings show results based on publication type, and index links allow you to browse index contents. Use the basic search box at the top or the advanced search to perform searches across indexes. Advanced search supports Boolean searching of multiple terms across specified fields.
  • 750,000 citations from over 3,000 publishers

CiteSeer

  • A citation index for computer science literature. Citations are shown in context, providing information on how the cited work was used.
  • Provides access to conference papers, technical reports, and preprints in addition to journal articles, books and chapters in books.
  • Indexes the full-text of entire articles and citations.
  • This database is freely available on the web, and open to all.

Compendex

  • Electronic version of the print publication Engineering Index. Subjects include civil, energy, environmental, geological, and biological engineering; electrical, automotive, nuclear, and aerospace engineering; and computers, robotics, and industrial robots.
  • Indexes 5000 journals, as well as books, selected government reports, conference proceedings, and web pages.
  • Access is through the Engineering Village 2 interface, which supports Boolean searching across multiple fields, limits, and result sorting.
  • Can create a personal login to save searches and results, or set up searches to run automatically every 2 weeks.
  • 1970 to present; updated weekly; data provided by Engineering Information, Inc. (EI)
  • Size: Over 7 million records total; adds 250,000 records each year.

Computer Source

  • Provides full text from more than 300 publications and indexing and abstracts for nearly 450 publications related to high technology.
  • Access is provided through EBSCOhost.
  • Coverage: 1985 to present.

Computer Science Bibliographies

  • Consists of references to journal articles, conference papers, and technical reports.
  • Subjects include most aspects of computer science.
  • Indexes approximately 1400 "bibliographies".
  • Bibliographies can be browsed by subject area. Advanced search allows for term combination across author, title, source, and keyword indexes, as well as date and publication type limits.
  • Coverage: current, with citations back to 1960; updated monthly; created by Alf-Christian Achilles at the Informatics for Engineering & Science, University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
  • Size: 1.4 million references

EEVL: The Internet Guide to Engineering Mathmatics and Computing

  • A collection of over 10,000 descriptions and links to quality Internet web sites.
  • The EESE search engine, searches over 200 engineering trade and scholarly journals.
  • Includes access to the Recent Advances in Manufacturing Bibliographic Database.

IEEE Xplore

  • Indexes all IEEE transactions, journals, magazines, and conference proceedings, and all current IEEE standards.
  • Full text available for all journals and major conference proceedings published since 1988 with some content back to 1950. For complete information on what is available to OHSU patrons, click on "Access Information"
  • Specialized author search allows for index browsing. Basic and advanced searching support date limits and result sorting.
  • Updated monthly.
  • Size: Approximately one million documents .

NCSTRL: Computer Science Technical Reports

  • Networked Computer Science Technical Reports Library: NCSTRL (pronounced "ancestral") is an international collection of computer science technical reports from CS departments and industrial and government research laboratories, made available for non-commercial and educational use.
  • Over 100 participants and over 20,000 items; includes reports of OGI's Computer Science Department.
  • Simple search interface allows keyword searching across author, title, and abstract. Reports are also browsable by author or date.
  • Maintained by UC Berkeley's Computer Science Division, this database is freely available on the web, and open to all.

PsycINFO

  • Covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines including human-computer interaction medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, and other areas.
  • Indexes over 1500 journals, dissertations, and books in 35 languages.
  • Access is through the OVID interface, and there are links to full text both within OVID and to other full-text sites.
  • Size: over 60,000 citations added annually through weekly updates; data provided by the American Psychological Association.
  • Coverage: 1872 to present.

Web of Science

  • One of the few databases offering citation searching - the ability to see who has cited an article.
  • Includes access to Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index.
  • Over 8700 multidisciplinary journals are indexed.
  • Coverage: 1990 to present.
  • A citation alerts feature will notify users when specified articles have been cited.
