About the Library
The Samuel L. Diack Library, which opened in 1967, was named after Samuel L. Diack, M.D.
who served as the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of OGI from 1963-1976.
In 1963, the year the Oregon Graduate Center (later renamed Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology)
was founded, he was appointed Chairman of the Board, serving for 13 years. As a member of the advisory committee
of the state industrial and educational leaders which recommended formation of the Graduate Center, his enormous
energies were focused on the growth and future of the Center. In July 2001, OGI became a school within OHSU
and was renamed the OGI School of Science & Engineering.
